Imagine a line of cars pulling into the parking lot of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Lancaster, PA. It’s early Thursday morning, and the air hums with activity. Cheerful volunteers greet one another, their voices blending with the rustle of boxes being prepared for distribution. These aren’t just boxes of food; they’re overflowing with hope, destined for families in need. But the mission doesn’t stop there.
For the past four years, this remarkable church has transcended its role as a place of worship to become a beacon of hope for families struggling to make ends meet. Every other Thursday morning at 8:00 AM, a group of dedicated volunteers gathers to distribute approximately 180 boxes of food from Blessings of Hope. For those unable to pick up their boxes, volunteer drivers step in, delivering food directly to their doors—an act of kindness that extends far beyond the church’s walls.
This outreach program is a true testament to the power of community. It thrives through the collective efforts of parishioners and the support of a generous grant from a local partner. Yet, as grocery prices rise and inflation continues to challenge families, the need for this program grows ever more urgent.
Father Hector, the Head Priest at the church, captures the heart of this mission, “Our church has been blessed to provide the location, the volunteers, the delivery drivers, and the donors to purchase and distribute the food boxes to families in need every other Thursday morning throughout the year. However, with the increased demand for food boxes, we could not sustain this vital outreach ministry without our partnership with Blessings of Hope. This outreach project has been able to continue and support families in need. We are thankful for this partnership with Blessings of Hope and hope it will continue to prosper and grow into the future.”
