A Summer Evening in Philadelphia: More Than a Meal

Dear Friends, 

At Blessings of Hope, we believe no one should go hungry—especially in a world overflowing with God’s abundance. Hunger doesn’t just take away meals; it steals dignity, peace of mind, and hope. That’s why we partner with ministries who share both our mission and our heart: to feed the body while lifting the soul. 

One of those partners is Church of the Living God, a dedicated team driven by the love of Jesus and a passion for serving their neighbors. 

On a sweltering summer night in the heart of Philadelphia—right on the steps of City Hall—we attended one of this ministry’s weekly food outreach events. Each time, around 150 people gather, many of them homeless or struggling financially. They came weary, hungry, and searching for hope.

What they found was more than a meal. 

Yes, there were the hot dogs that Church of the Living God serves at every outreach. But there was also steaming chicken noodle soup, sandwiches, pineapple fruit cups, cookies, iced drinks, coffee, Klondike cones, and even Häagen-Dazs ice cream. Volunteers distributed seasonal clothing, prayed with those who asked, and most importantly, listened—truly listened—to people’s stories.

And here’s the beautiful part: through these simple acts of kindness, lives are being changed. Some who once battled addiction have found freedom. Others have rediscovered a sense of belonging. Many have experienced hope for the first time in a long while.
