Dear Friends,
At Blessings of Hope, we are continually inspired by the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy, and hearts to support people in need—both in our local communities and around the world. These selfless individuals are the heartbeat of our mission, bridging the gap between surplus food and families facing hunger.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Month, we want to spotlight one amazing woman who embodies the spirit of service: Carla Fackler.
Each week, Carla faithfully volunteers at our East Petersburg location, helping dehydrate nutritious food that’s turned into soup blends for international distribution. Her dedication ensures that people facing food insecurity—whom she’ll never meet—receive a warm, life-giving meal.

When asked why she volunteers, Carla simply says, “I believe in the mission and love supporting the cause of feeding hungry people.” Her words are as humble as they are powerful.
Carla’s journey with Blessings of Hope began when our CEO, David Lapp, spoke at her church. Moved by his message, she stepped up and invited others from her congregation to join her in serving. Her leadership and compassion have been a blessing to so many.
But Carla’s generosity doesn’t stop there. Instead of keeping the food vouchers she earns through volunteering, she gives most of them away—to individuals on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or disability. She also takes the time to personally bring them to our Ministry Selection Center so they can choose the food they need. “It’s so much fun going to the Selection Center and taking people there,” she says with a smile.
Carla’s story is a powerful reminder of how one person’s kindness and commitment can make a world of difference. Volunteers like her are truly transforming lives—one meal, one smile, one act of love at a time.
If you’ve been looking for a way to make a meaningful impact, we’d love for you to join us. Sign up for a volunteer shift and become part of something life-changing.
With Gratitude,
Blessings of Hope
P.S. – If you’re a volunteer, don’t forget to join us at our Volunteer Appreciation Event on April 22, 2025. We can’t wait to celebrate you!
