Dear Friends,
In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Blessings of Hope is making a significant impact on the relief efforts, thanks to the unwavering support of our community and partners. We are thrilled to share that, as of today, we have successfully dispatched 12 truckloads of food and essential supplies to the hardest-hit regions. This incredible effort translates to over 380,000 pounds of nutritious meals, clean water, and critical supplies for families in desperate need.
Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that the affected communities receive immediate aid, and our trucks are filled with items essential for both survival and recovery. From nutritious meals to clean water and household necessities, we are doing everything we can to alleviate the burden on those devastated by the storm. We’re sending manpower too. Our cofounder Aaron Fisher and his wife, Barbie spent some time in North Carolina last week helping with disaster relief. Barbie had this to say of her experience after returning from the hurricane relief efforts:
“I am not sure how anyone can wrap their brain around the devastation. It’s hard to grasp what happens when every creek, every gully, every slope becomes a path for rushing water. Rushing water that picks up everything in its path and carves chasms as it moves. Gaining momentum and fury with every inch. Leaving landscapes totally changed, and utter chaos wherever it went. Huge areas of waste with mud and patches of standing water littered with debris. There’s huge trees, tractor trailers, houses, cars, and sheds tossed about as if they were toys. Roads tossed about as if they were pieces of cardboard. A huge tree standing in the middle of the railroad tracks, a trailer tossed up into a church building, a tractor trailer in the middle of the woods, huge parking lots full of mud, buildings now half hanging over a gaping chasm because the rushing water took away the soil on which the back half stood. Then, there are businesses completely untouched by the water. Yet lifeless because they have no power and no water. The entire town is crippled. Schools are closed. And then people. Lots of people. A man with only a backpack on his back. Everything else is washed away. A family living under a tarp. And many more. We fed them. They thanked us over and over. They were delighted that we gave them hot food. That we gave them vegetables and rice. They called us angels and told us we had the best restaurant in town. They marveled that we traveled 9 hours to love on them. They asked if they could take plates to neighbors or elderly. If we asked if they needed work done, they reluctantly said yes. They wanted us to help others first. Their own situation wasn’t the worst. And then we left. We are going home to our lives. All the daily luxuries we take for granted. And they are still there. Waiting for water and power. Wondering when they can get a hot shower. Longing for a cup of hot coffee. Wondering how their little town that depended on fall tourists and winter bear hunters will survive this devastation.”
As we continue our relief efforts, we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming generosity that has fueled our mission. Your contributions are bringing hope, nourishment, and comfort to countless families struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
